Default 5670 Thoughts?

What do you guys think of the 5670 as a gain tube in a preamp stage application. This will be coupled to a 6n6/5687/etc hefty tube to do the lifting. Looking for a medium mu dual triode. Discounted the 12AU7, 12SN7.

No direct experience with this one, but it looks like you ought to be able to find a decent loadline if you have the Vpp margin to get the plate current above 5.0mA or so. Looks like a good choice if you need something that falls between a 12AU7 and a 12AT7 for gain.

Maybe someone has actually tried them?

I have used them in LTP. They work good. Odd pinout though. I have seen schematics using them in amplifiers and preamps but I don't have anything in memory right now. Search here or Google using all of the possible numbers.

5670 = 2C51 = WE396A

Hello,
The 5670 is a nice little tube. I have assembled several breadboard circuits with it. Take a look at the curves; they look well behaved; straight and evenly spaced. There are many of them around for not much money. They were built to be used in a M1 tank.

It's pretty popular in this neck of the woods for line and phono stages, reputedly a good sounding tube. I have a number here and a line stage that uses them that I never finished.. (Someday?)

Default 5670 Tube

The 5670 triode is used in S5 electronics K-16LS amp kits, among others, as a phase splitter, and in their add-on 'preamp' and tone circuits. I have built a few of these kits and never had a reliability issue with the 5670 or for that matter the 6005 pentodes used in the power amp section. Cost for a 5670 is $6.00.
