6N3 Tube Preamp with DC-DC converter

I found this to be very cheap and interesting...the main transistor is used to step up the voltage for the plate, while the unit only uses a 12v supply...and it's only $30

What is it for?

Looks to be a voltage multiplier setup,as far as I can tell.. the 12VAC input requirement suggests that also.

I found the schematic that it came with...I'll post it up after I get back from the library...It claims to only boost the voltage up to 30volts which seems really weak to me...

Anyways, I built one and it sounds ok for the price...I think that it is better suited to instruments than to HiFi...Guitar sounds amazing...

I'm wondering how the voltage is stepped up to 30 volts for the plates.
Might be a good board if you strip it of the voltage multiplier and apply an external 80 to 100 B+ volts.
I'd like to see the schematic.

nige838,

Have you found the schematic for the Buffer? I'd really like to see it.
I'm still trying to figure out the reason for two transistors to increase the voltage to 30 volts ... and without an inductor.
Thanks.

It looks that the circuit use voltage multiplier.
