I have a pair of RCA 39/44 tubes lying around. Got then while buying some other tubes as well. Any idea what can i do with a pair of these?

2 single-tube AM receivers ?

I can't think of any other useful device that would only utilize these (and no other tubes and/or other devices). However if you had an output stage these could be put up front to serve as preamplifiers. Heck, you could put together a tube/sand hybird

You could find an early 1930's-vintage Philco console radio to put them in. The 39/44 was a remote-cutoff (non-linear) tube used in the IF stages of these old receivers. For more information look here.

I doubt there is any real audio use for this tube. Perhaps other, more experienced members of this forum know of some.

It's something like a 6BA6, popular in IF amplifiers and occasionally RF amplifiers in tuners.

Thanks for all the inputs. I really like the preamp idea as i do not play the guitar. Besides that, i messaged a guy that had done up a preamp with that very tube.

Hopefully i will be able to do something up with this pair. This pair is a beauty with its mesh plates, would be a waste to dispose of them.
