pot in tube preamp

im building that zsp1 set kit from decware. the 100k ohm pot it came with is not smooth at all, it feels like it has gravel in it. i sprayed it etc but no improvement. i have a nice 250k pot. is it allright to use this one instead? it is on the input of the amp right after the rca input jacks

i think it should work without problems.
i saw tube pre that had (passive) 1meg pot on the input..........

I think it depends what the maximum gridleak resistance is of the input tube.
