I've been assuming that I'd be using output caps on a planned 6as7 headphone amp. But I read somewhoere that one can use impedance matching trannies. 6as7 plate impedance nom. 280 ohms. My cans are old-style 600 ohm AKG k240's.
The other day I saw that Elrod has 2-1/2 watt 600/600 and 150/600 trannies for about $14. That's as close as I've found so far. Am I on the right track? I want 300/600, que no? Since avg power level is more like 150 mW, shouldn't freq response be OK even with a small trannie? Thx! |

If the transformers have a provision for B+ then they should work fine. I suspect though that they are line matching transformers, so putting DC on them will cause distortion.
