Yet another passive attenuator

Greetings!

This is my first post as a new diyaudio member. I recently completed a pair of 300B single ended amplifiers, and found my existing preamplifier far exceeded the 300B input requirements (essentially 1V for full output). I hadn't built a passive volume arrangement in years, and looked around for something new to try -- which brought me to this site in general, and specifically to the Haller control others here have experimented with.

Being more familiar with more conventional shunt type controls, the approach I found offered earlier by Mr. Haller (which I noticed a number of other members have tried with varying amounts of success, often requiring extra series resistance and an extra resistor across the input to reduce hum), I was curious to give Harry's a try.

I must say, it is very promising, and better by a significant margin than an active line stage.

I have Lowther speakers, which are hugely efficient, and simply don't need lots of drive to get them up and running. In any event, I appreciated information others shared about their experiences and experiments with the Haller design. It's put me on track to something that I think will eventually work very well. I still have too much gain into 100K z of my amplifiers, but the sheer transparency was really impressive. I'm not a detail fanatic, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear things deep in the mix I wasn't so aware of before. Very impressive!

The 300B monoblocks are wonderful, too, probably the best my Lowthers have sounded.
