You still need the isolating transformer. Your source is the guitar.

Most of their tube schematics are for amps but I think I remember some for pre-amp stomp boxes using 12AX7's.

I'm starting my first tube project, too, but luckily there are lots of places on the web for info. DIYAudio is definitely one of the best for answers to questions.
