chatting with Ralph was mainly about part choices on his part, this dictated what I bought from him, l like to support those that support us, mainly resistors, signal caps, diodes, destruction manual and so on, hv trans and choke for driver too.
nothing really earthshattering revelation wise, but he is a very helpful and generous gent, I am looking to get an MP1 @ somepoint or build a vacuumstate RTP3D preamp as well.
You've done a nice job on your amps, what did you use meter wise?

Hey Esteban, Do you have anything substantial to ad to this thread????
Something like your progress with the construction of your amplifiers.
We're all waiting for something to see what you've put together.

Always looking to be more Zen. Would this driver stage work? And how many tubes could it drive?

That driver stage could work, though the capacitor coupling can mean troublesome overload characteristics. The ECC88 is a stiff, high gm, type that can operate at lowish Vpk's and still pull some decent currents. It should be able to keep up with the Ci of the finals, especially if you're using pents as these aren't hard loads so long as you stick to Class AB1.

As to how many, that depends on the type and operating conditions.

This drive is the same with little differences from the Curcio mod in ST70 from GAudio Magazine. I made the same circuit driving PP of 6BX7. The only change is the grid of the upper half of the ECC88. Good sound, year after year listen this circuit.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking for a two tube solution instead of the 4 6SN7 used in this OTL. My OTL idea here is for two ouput tubes per channel at around 20 watts.

One other choice is the 6H30 "super tube". Or really a 6DJ8/6922/6N1P on steroides. In a similar driver circuit. That could be even better?

No. The 6DJ8/6922/6H30 family of tubes are not designed for audio and have troubles with microphonics. This is why the 6SN7 sounds better.
