Default What tube config will get this sound?

Listen to the Album version of the song "Lights" By Journey. How are they getting such a tubey sound?

Try to find out online whose guitar amplifiers and other effects hardware (stomp boxes, etc.) they were using in those days.

I haven't listened to a song by Journey if I can avoid it for about 25yrs..

Journey's actually a very good band, Kevin. I never liked Perry much either, though.

Whut Kevin sez, bro. Given the vintage of that album, I would pretty much guarantee you that the only tubes in the song are in the guitar amp. I never saw any stomp boxes with tubes, but Barbour (MetaSonix) makes them, I think. Look through their videos of that time (as long as you can tolerate Perry's simpering) and see if you can pick up the brand of the picker's amp.

Try working in radio. Had anyone told me it would be 30 non-stop Journey years I might have stayed on the assembly line.
