Hello
I am interested in getting a very high quality tube amp for mid & high frequencies (greater than say 400 hz) . It will be bi-amped altec rig (altec 416z on bottom; jbl 2440 on top + tweeter crossed at 800 hz). The main criteria is dynamics & quietness. So far I think Push Pull offers better (much better) dynamics than Single-ended amps (even on a compression driver). So I am leaning towards a 10-25 watts Push-Pull amp as a first cut(I have been using 50 w push/pull on just compression driver - sounds crazy but it does sound great except for the noise-- I want the same sound&dynamics but without the noise). Are there any amps specificall designed for mid/high frequencies? I know good Power Supplies greatly improve bass performance. What needs to be done to optimiize mid/high frequencies? So, do such amps already exist? Or I have to modify/build/commission such a mid/hi freq amp? If anyone has any links, please let me know. thks in advance operafan4 |

You want SET amp to feed high frequencies, especially compression driver. Use P-P amp for bass unit. With high efficiency horn tweeter, you only need 5-ish watts. Check out Tubelab SE amp in Tubelab section of this forum. It's got what you need.
