Default Bad tubes wanted for tester testing

I'm currently designing a tube tester and I need some tubes that are not working properly so that I can verify that the tester is working correctly. Anything short of smashed envelopes would be OK.

The tester tests for shorts between pins and assuming that no problems are found, it powers up the tube and extracts the plate curves. These are then compared to the nominal curves to see if the tube is within spec.

So, if you have a pile of "junk" tubes and would like to get them off your hands, I'd be happy to pay shipping and handling plus a little extra for your trouble. I'll send payment via PayPal. The bigger the pile, the better. I'll even consider you for beta testing of the completed tester if you seem like a good fit.

I'd also appreciate any input about what tube types people are interested in testing, and what your favorite features for a tester would be. The target price for the tester is in the $500-$600 range.

Thanks,

Chris

Are you planning to post schematics, etc. so one could DIY the tester?

I'll be happy to send you a box of weak, leaky, shorted and open ones. But you could just buy a box of "untested" ones on eBay...

Tom (tomchr),

The design uses a lot fine pitch surface mount components, so it would be a very difficult DIY. If I get to a point in the design where it is obvious that we can't build and sell it for a profit, I would consider open sourcing the design. But hopefully it will have enough features at a reasonable price that people will want to buy it.

Thanks for the offer and for the info. I checked out eBay, using the all important keyword "untested" and saw several interesting lots. If by some miracle all of the tubes work fine, perhaps I'll contact you after the first of the year to get some of your known bad ones.
