How much capacitance for tube rectified PSUs?

Here's what my idea is so far. A choke input PSU using a 240VAC transformer rectified using a 5AR4, fed into a 10H choke, then 300uF, then another 10H choke followed by another 300uF. Is this too much capacitance for the tube rectifier to take? First amp using tube rectifiers... If so, what values should I use? I've already got the two 10H chokes, so those values are set.

Hi,

The GZ34/5AR4 only cares about the capicitance it sees before the choke.

Since you intend to use a LCL filter it shouldn't matter.

What can occur though is that the chokes go into full saturation/conduction but that would depend on the load...so no further comment so far.

Don't worry, you'll be fine.

Model it in PSUD to make sure it's not going to saturate the choke or exceed either the peak or average current of the GZ34.

Well, thanks. I knew in a CLC circuit the second C could be larger than the first, but I knew not about choke input circuits. I feel better about it, since I already had the six 100uF caps that config qould be
