Yup, that's an OTL (Output TransformerLess amplifier). Yes, such a thing is possible, and yes, it completely removes the output transformer.
I've seen that design, and I like the looks of it, but the 6C33 tube costs more than I can afford at the moment.
It's not difficult to simplify it even further; you really only need one tube up front connected as a differential.
Another good tube for OTL designs is the 6AS7--another power triode. It's not as high-powered as the 6C33, but it's also cheaper.
I've got an OTL design I've been working on for a while (in between other projects). When (yeah, yeah, Grey, we've heard this before) I get the silly thing going properly, I'll start a thread.
