I would think that the Impass was not designed for that service. I have not seen the Impass schematic, but I would think a Red Light with the headphone jacks on the primaries might be more like it.
The "nominal" sensitivity is measured with a 100 V pp signal. They are about 100pF.
Takes some real current to charge that capacitor. Blue Hawaii used EL34 and an 800V ps.

The Impasse is balanced out and I've gotten it to swing 60V RMS -- SY designed it to drive a pair of Pass F4 "current source" amps -- the input capacitance of which is a function of the 2SK170 and 2SJ74.

Cables and all it measures 168pF -- at least for my Stax Lambda's.Interesting idea; there's certainly symmetry. What's the load look like?
