Sweep tube info/specs

Greetings again,
There's lots of discussions on sweep tube amps, is there anywhere I can go to get specific info on the tubes operating in audio service?

Not really. The spec sheets for the vertical and horizontal deflection power amps make no mention whatsoever concerning useage as audio finals. This being due, perhaps, to the fact that you can't really use them as single-ended audio finals, since the most linear part of the characteristic is well into red plate territory. You have to use Class AB PP to take advantage of that.

This is also a good thing in that it keeps these from going audiophool expensive. When I did a project using 6BQ6GTBs, I had to figure the loadline myself. It turned out that these are every bit as good as the famous 6V6, and gives over twice the power as well.

Other HD finals also look like they'd do quite well as audio finals.

During the 1960's several Australian guitar amplifier manufacturers used 6DQ6 horizontal output valves for audio. At the time traditional 'audio' output valves were quite expensive and not easily obtainable, especially in rural areas. 6DQ6's, on the other hand, were cheap and available from every TV repair shop.

AWV, an Australian valve manufacturer, did publish a data sheet for 6DQ6's being used as PP audio output valves. A copy is attached.
