Idea about converting Musical Fidelity X-10 to a pre-amp

Would this be possible to convert a X-10 into a single source tube pre-amp. I only listen to CD's at this point anyway, and because of my love to Hybrid setups, ( i have a pair of Butler Tube Drivers in my car) I'd like to build a gainclone amp, and use a tube pre-amp, for a small budget system, and with my x-10 just sitting there, I figured, Why not? I would think it would be cheaper and easier to install a high quality pot on the input stage of the X-10, than to go out and buy a pre-amp. Am I nutz?

Hi,

I guess my question would be , where do I put it?

At the input instead of the 1Meg resistor just in front of the 22nF input cap.

Are there any schematics for Musical Fidelity stuff out on the net?

Yes for this one at least, I didn't look for any other of their product.

Doing these mods would turn your x-10 into a X10-D I think.

We had a similar question like this before here but the local search engine refuses to dig it up for me.

Anyway, just send me an e-mail and I'll put the link to that site in the reply to you.

Cheers,;)
