I'm thinking about building Frank's ultimate tube preamp but am a little confused when it comes to the transformer for the power supply. He talks about a 300VA transformer. but in the parts list states 250V 300ma EI core. In another post it's stated that the transformer is 250V @1A. None of these correlate to me, and am not sure what to purchase.
Actually what I am looking to build is a quality tube preamp on the high end side. My theory is basic, but my building skills are high. Am I headed in the right direction with Frank's preamp?? Or should I consider something else? My current setup is a 24 chip DDDAC dac and a upgraded/modified Cavalli Bijou amp. I also have the Buffalo Dac, but have been somewhat (ok, alot) disappointed compared to the DDDAC. I think this can be attributed to the IVY linestage. So my thought was to build Frank's preamp, and test with the Buffalo. If you can believe the Lampizator's write up... he rave's about the buffalo with a tube linestage. In any case...building a quality preamp would set me up for the next step...which would be to build a quality higher power tube amp for speakers (as to now, I have stuck to headphones). Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated! |

Thanks. The total power demand can't be much more than about 25w by my reckoning. Maybe I'm missing something.

Is it me, or is John Broskie trying to take credit for this preamp circuit as the "Broskie Impedance Multiplier"
Tetra Phono All-in-One & Broskie Impedance Multiplier Cheers! |
