Default Budget 2A3?

I have a friend who wants me to build a 2A3 based stereo SE amp for about $400 (not including the tubes in the cost). I have searched around the web and found a few designs that might fit the bill but none of them really seem proven (lots of schematics that haven't been built). Does anybody know of a good 2A3 based design that could be built for about that price point? One that you have built that sounds great? If so I would appreciate a link.
Thanks,
Jeff

Google "Loftin-White 2A3". It's a simple design, direct coupled so it sounds good. Most of your money will be spent on the output transformers. Good iron = good results. The Edcor(e) transformers are supposed to sound great for what they cost. I have never tried them but many here on this forum have and have very good things to say about them.
If you have money left over after building it, you can always tweek it to try to get it to sound even better.
Your friend will have to have very efficient speakers to get any volume out of this amp (3 watts)

Try a "GetSetGo" from Shannon Parks. It's a 6B4G amp based closely on the JE Labs Simple 2A3. I built one earlier this year and I'm very pleased with it. Edcor makes a suitable power transformer at an unbeatable price, and you can use their GXSE output transformers too. Total iron cost can be very reasonable. You should easily be able to keep it under budget.
