• WARNING: Tube/Valve amplifiers use potentially LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES.
Building, troubleshooting and testing of these amplifiers should only be
performed by someone who is thoroughly familiar with
the safety precautions around high voltages.

Yet another do-nothing tOOb hack.

Queried the Seven Dwarves for Mithril, but it was on eternal backorder.
Now maybe if I can get some milspec Titanium wire, try fitting a 300B!

Hey, if folks exist who will whip out credit cards for a black Sharpie to
darken CD edges. How can those same folks send their precious tubes
into battle naked??? Somebody had to remedy this sad situation...

No, its not for sale. And with my arthritus, it may or may not ever be...

DIY use a Euro4-1 pattern cause it form fits by its own weight. Like a
finger cuff puzzle... Sixteen rings taper to twelve at the top, to keep
from sliding all the way down. 16G bright aluminum electric fence wire.
I would use some other metal, aluminum was slightly too soft to resist
tool marks. Even with urethane glue (Gorilla) covering the pliers...

I forget the mandrel size? It was smaller than 1/4 inch. I'll re-measure
tonight when I get home...

StOOpidest idea evar, er whut??? I don't even know if this is safe...

clearly an attempt to increase the WAF of an open top amplifier by increasing the BLING content. Now normally there is a very low BLING/WAF correlation but this could be due to the tendancy for the vast majority of amp designers (men) to include such features as meters, switches LED and flourescent displays etc in the misguided belief that this is WAF associated BLING (surprised that Morgan Jones doesn't cover this and there si no comment on it in the RCA Design documentation, but anecdotal evidence is quite strong).

This product, being more akin to a Chanel glo-mesh clutch-purse, is obviously designed scientifically to address BLING with WAF in mind.

Very clever.

Well, it might keep Big Foot from eating the tubes if you invite him over for a listen:

or as shielding.

How about a bunch of glue on spikes sticking out every which way from the tube. Could act like heat radiators then too.

Maybe put several perforated metal bands around the tube with nails sticking outward. Or put the nails out thru the ring mesh.

Correction: Wire was 18g, not 16g. I believe the mandrel used was 3/16.
16 rings should make the right diameter hauberk for most noval types...
And you will need to taper out 4 rings from the pattern to shape the top.
Slightly too loose for a finger, slightly too tight for a thumb, should fit
about right, unless you got really abnormal hands or tubes...

Now them coke bottle shape DHTs are gonna be vea-wee interresant...
Need to find out if the light show is helped or hurt. I don't think this is
a safe or sane project for anything bearing a top cap... Not sure if a
connection to ground is helpful. What happens if the glass breaks???
Is ground shorted to plate the safer mode of failure, or less safe?

Has it been checked to see if it's bulletproof yet? Could be some special amplifier sales niches then. Military, Mafia, Terrrorists ... Yeah, yeah, don't they cut off fingers or something. Size large, fits all.

Or how about a long one to put over the power cord so Fido can't chew through it.
