Default 6922 for a Noob

Hello all. I bought a 6922 about 4 year ago with view to learning somthing. I just knocked up a heater, 6.3vdc supply using a 317T adjustable regulator. I wired it to Pin 4 & 5 of a 9BA socket and proceeded to plug in my tube and firing it up, I was dissapointed not to see a glow. I didn't want to build an audio stage until I could supply a heater power supply.

Did I miss something. I've Googled at Data sheets etc and got linked here. I think I should have came here first seeing as I'm already a member.

Please, where have I gone wrong?

Thanks Fuzzy Muff

I'm not near a receiving tube manual but noticed the Raytheon spec sheet lists the socket type as 9DE. Do you have an ohmeter? The shorted pin pairs are either filaments or a pooched tube.

Yo Fuzzy,
Are you getting 6 volts at the socket?
Do you have it with the tube plugged in?
Did you count clockwise from the socket bottom for pins 4 & 5?
Does the tube have filament continuity?
Does the tube get warm?
Is there lots of getter at the top preventing you from seeing any glow?

Are you sure that you have no glow even in a dimly lit room? Can you post a schematic?

Default Hello again

I'm correctly wired at pins four and five. I got 6.3 volts with no tube, and plug it in and theres about a volt there. The tube does not glow or get warm 5.4 ohms across pins 4 and 5.
I'm 38 years old and never played with a tube, I'm ashamed of myself. Maybe I need a bigger transformer. I bought the tube as I said, but the other bits are recycled. I guesstimated the tranny size, figured if it wasn't strong enough, it would get hot??? Right?

Measure the voltage across the transformer with the tube in the socket. If the voltage has sagged more than a volt or so, the tranny is too small.
Is the 317T heatsinked properly?

Default Ahhhh!

My Transformer started out at 25.5 volts ac, no load, ( nothing connected to the wires), now, loaded, its 16.6 Volts ac!

I'll come back in a while when I've attached a new Transformer.

Default I'm back

Found a Toroid lighting transformer. 12volts ac 1.2Amp. Checked wiring and 6.3vdc across heater . Put tube in and nothing??? I'm using a 240 ohm resistor and a 5k preset on my LM317T.

My heatsink is oversized.

You do realize that pin numbers for tubes are taken looking at it from the bottom side?
