Sure !
I am mainly concerned with driver and output tubes though. 6CA7 , round or flat ? KT88 , round or flat ? EL34 ? EL84 ? 6l6 ? 6SN7 ? (I looked at an old one yesterday that looked triangulated !) 6GK5 ? Etc................................Blake |

6V6 is oval, not round !
6F6 is round. Almost all BPT are flat. Some triodes can be built both ways, it's a manufacturer decision. Why do you ask that ? Yves. |

6AQ5s all seem to have nice big cylindrical plates. They all seem as well to tend to microphonicity. Ring like a bell when you tap on them.

6AV6, if I remember correctly, a 12AX7-like triode with a round (cylindrical) plate with two small diodes along for the ride.

KT88 is most definately flat.
NOS GE 12v6GT (beam pentode like kt88) have a bent plate and cathode sorta like ( and ) but a little straighter i might even go as far just to call it a tappared edge |

Thanks for all the responses.
"Almost all BPT are flat." What is BPT ? Seems as though 6V6 ( Which I erroneously called 'round' , I meant 'round-ed') and 6SL7 both have the reputation of being very smooth sounding , and the 6V6 is supposed to be a very linear device (IDK about the 6SL7). I was curious to see if there happened to be any correllation between a tubes sonics and it's architecture. In my simple mind, it would seem that a smoothly curved/rounded plate would make for a better design , no edges or corners to offer deviations to the signal. Probably sounds stupid, but now you know why I asked. Are any of the popular tubes I listed above rounded/curved ? 6CA7 , rounded or flat ? EL34 ? EL84 ? 6l6 ? 6SN7 ? 6GK5 ? Thanks again...........................Blake |
