This is one of my few posts in tube section, but I was offered to buy two pairs of Krohn Hite 102 (and 101, I think) amps, with a claim that those are one of the best around. Is that true?

probably built like a GenRad, HP or Tek. You see their variable filters, oscillators etc., on EBay all the time.

Going by heresay only (but from someone i respect). The lowest measured distortion in a tube amp you are likely to ever find. They sound terrible thou. On the other hand i cooresponded with a fellow in New Zealand who loved his on his IMF TLS80 clones.

If these are what I remember them to be, they'll need output
transformers. I think they're really instrumentation amplifiers, possibly like power opamps. I >thought< I had a manual or schematics for them, but I can't turn up anything in my files now. |

As I recall at least one of these amplifiers was a circlotron design by Dick Burwin. (I was privileged some years ago to work with him on a NMRI switching amplifier design, he claimed this krohn-hite amplifier had the lowest thd of any tube amplifier made, mentioned it had gobs of global feedback.) You might even find schematics for them on the boatanchor site or one of it's mirrors.
