Please help ID this DIY tube monoblocks
I am looking at this pair of monoblocks, which will need rebuilding.
The seem to be a DIY pair, and the seller bought them at some estate sale, so he does not have much info on them.
Do these look familiar? Do 4 tubes on the channel and some kind of a can transistor ring a bell?
Schematic? Model #? Pleeease!
I have no clew really
But they could be of an age that maybe it could be some kind of Williamson design
Im no tube guy, but was just a thought
I would say it is a pile of transformers. You don't want the chassis as the layout is really awful. Looks like bad news to me. You probably don't want the schematic...
Looks to me like the builder had no "clew" either.
The amps are obviously someone's DIY project....
Do you own these or are you considering purchasing them?
Assuming that you have access to the amps....
If you can take the time to draw up a schematic and post it, that would sure help the folks on the forum to assist you.
Assuming the components are functional, I would get them up and running, then consider modernizing/modding them.
Do you know what tubes they were designed for?
I am considering to purchase them. The price is pretty low.
I mean, I know I can gut those amps, get the transformers and design a new amp around them, but I don't really want to do it yet.
While I admire your enthusiasm I would add a word of caution. The purchase price might be low, but the time, effort, and rebuild parts costs are likely to be quite high.
I see that there is a 'jack' input (next to the RCA socket), and it is marked with a telephone... is this the sort of amp that you really want?
If cost is an issue please consider investigating Bottlehead or Decware products as viable cost-effective routes.
I would consider buying it for the iron only (which looks quite heavy; the opts resemble Hammonds)... depending on the asking price. Circuit will be rubbish and the other parts dustbin or junkbox material.
