Using James JS-6123HS with EL84 SE is overkilled?

Typically, a transformer designed for a 2A3 or 300B will not be usable for an EL84, which has a higher Rp and is best with more primary inductance than a 2A3.

Looking at the link you provided, there are several possible primary options from 2.5K to 5K. the 6BQ5 aka EL84 is listed as a tube this transformer was designed to accommodate.
