Default Using James JS-6123HS with EL84 SE is overkilled?

Hi,

I look for a best affordable OPT for EL84 SE (Triode, or run at UL40%), and someone offer me JS-6123HS at ~ US$200.

Look at the spec, this OPT is for 2A3 and 300B. Any one ever use this OPT model with EL84 SE? Will this OPT be overkilled (too good to be used) for EL84 SE?

Thanks.

Typically, a transformer designed for a 2A3 or 300B will not be usable for an EL84, which has a higher Rp and is best with more primary inductance than a 2A3.

Looking at the link you provided, there are several possible primary options from 2.5K to 5K. the 6BQ5 aka EL84 is listed as a tube this transformer was designed to accommodate.

HTH

Doug

Thanks Doug.

I thought that all 3.5K (or 5K) are the same as long as the max current is higher than the running one. Are they?
