I'm planning an SVT-alike using the power section of a Simms-Watts PA200 (4xKT88 UL) and would like any kinds of tips and tricks regarding cloning the SVT preamp on turret/tag boards. Opinions re: the various versions of the preamp are also welcome.
The PA amp is in pretty good condition inside, but the pots are wrecked and it needs tubes and a recap. I'm going to start with testing the transformers (huge things, I've read that they used Partridge iron in these) and if they check out OK I'll start with the project. I know someone will be freaked out by me "destroying" an old piece of tube gear, but as I see it, it's completely useless to me as a PA amp... besides, I've always wanted a big tube bass amp

I wish you a good luck and suggest to develop own layout since original Ampeg SVT has errors that cause hum and HF oscillations. Pay attention on ground connections.
However, the problem will be to obtain an inductor, but you may use several inductors instead of one with taps.
