The screens have a dropping R from B+ and a cap bypass to the cathode node. I tried ref'ing them to ground with various regulators and with signal on the cathodes( and thus a signal-varied g2-cathode voltage) found the results not to my liking.
I found the ratio of g2 to anode current smaller in the 6AC7 v. the 6AU6. The 6AU6 is a very fine small pentode, very reasonable claim to being the 6SN7 of pentodes...linear, useable( and useful ), etc...
