Hello all!
Can anyone point me towards some info on what is required to change my amp from using 8pin el34s to accepting 7pin el34s? I am new to the whole tube thing (first amp) and dont know much, if you need any more info please let me know. I have already opened the amp up and pin6 (missing pin) is definitely wired in and doing something. I am excited to learn about tubes, and looking forward to doing this modification! |

Hi,
EL34 uses an octal socket, regardless if it has a pin missing. No need to rewire anything. The ones with the 8th pin don't have it tied internally usually. Cheers! |

Pin 6 on the EL34 is not used. That's how an EL34 is.
Some manufacturers use an unconnected pin on the tube socket as a convenient 'unused' soldering tag, to mount some other component (resistor, etc) or as a junction point. It doesn't mean that it is supposed to carry any current to or from the tube. |
