Hello,
This is a great sounding amp, but I could use help identifying what tube needs to go in the missing spot. Pictures are here: Heathkit W2 I have the schematics from a forum search, but still can't figure it out. Thanks for your time. |

You are not missing any tubes. The W2 uses 2 6SN7 and 2 5881, and you have all 4 tubes .
Back in the old days octal sockets were often used as connectors for power supplies etc. I believe that is the case for this amp, although I have never owned one and I dont have a picture of one connected correctly for a W2. But the Heath W3 dual chassis amp does use the octal socket in that location as the power supply connection. Here is a picture http://www.heathkit-museum.com/hifi/hvmw3-am.shtml It appears from your pictures that this amp has been modded and the power supply is hard wired into the amp. Maybe a previous owner did not like the octal connector.
