Hey All
I have gotten my dirty little fingers on a Sound City B120 Bass amplifier, its in orginal state so it needs to be redone with new capacitors and resistors. The power trafo is possible shorted, it smoked from the PT 15 years ago before it was put in a basement where its been until now. I dont know if I should try to sell it as it is, or restore it to its former glory just to enjoy the work and then sell it for hopefully alot more. Kind regards

Those can be awesome amps even for guitar.
Think of it as the poor mans Harry Joyce Hiwatt era. http://www.soundcitysite.com/sc_webp...oto_page_6.htm I would restore it if it were mine. The only problem being if you are not playing at a huge arena venue, those 6 EL34's will be at idling their life away. They are extremely loud high power amps. Hearing protection required . You can most likely get the PT serviced through Mercury Magnetics and the Cap job is fairly simple on those. JJ, LCR, & FT all sell compatible can caps. If its the model I remember, Some of those are loaded with Phillips/Mullard Mustard caps which are very desirable. This seemed to vary run to run. I tend to gather up obscure amps like Univox's. I have a 150W U1511 that will knock down walls. Once every other month I power it up for and hour or 2 of exercise. |
