Default strange tube? E-8128

I have a few guitar amps from the 30's and 4o's .the one from the 40's has a Black metal tube that reads

E-8128 clarostat

I cant find any info on it or any codes for testing.

Clarostat made resistors - could that be a clue?

This is probably a ballast resistor for a series heater string. Such amplifiers are potentially very hazardous unless an isolation transformer is used.
