Hi Folks,
I am just working on the layout of my 845 amp and need a little advice. The filament supply is DC and uses Hammond 159ZJ chokes (http://www.audiodesignguide.com/New845/New845v2.html). I am finding the layout problematic for various reasons (heat dissipation, the number of transformers etc) and the 'best' physical layout places the three filament supply chokes adjacent to the output transformers. I think this should be OK - what do people think? I have included a rough drawing of this part of the layout with the winding direction indicated by the lines. Thanks for the opinion. Rob |

I wouldn't expect there to be any major induction between the chokes and the OP transformers, especially since your diagram seems to indicate that the choke cores will be at 90 degrees to the OPT cores. That's a long-winded way of saying that I think it should be OK.

Whut Ray sez, with one provision. If this is not the input choke in a choke-input PS filter, you're in. It is my understanding that if you use a choke-input filter (the first element after the rectifier is the choke), that first choke has a very mongo AC input, and can be making some serious field. Otherwise, build and enjoy.

Thanks Ray_moth.
Hi Poinz, there is a cap before the choke, so it looks like it should be OK. Cheers, Rob |
