Hey
I just get 2 NOS transformers with following data:Type: SE Primary: 7k + 40% screen Sec: 15, 8, 5 and 3,2 ohm Current 50-60 mA Power: 5 - 6 watt I was looking at a g2 driven PL36 solution. Maby running at 300 V +B, but I am not sure that is the right solution. Are there any who have a better solution Regards Benny |

I would try PL36 in triode mode with 300V p-k or 807 UL
Edit: That 15 ohm tap might be useful for cathode feedback! |

I personally don't like the g2 drive: Too much stress for the valve, which is reflected on the sound......
With your transformer, I would go for a ECL/PCL86 amplifier. The output power, with 270 anode voltage and 35-37 mA (anode + screen grid) current, would be close to 4W (in UL mode). Cheers, 45 |

What impedance are the speakers you will be using, 8 ohm?

If I were you, I would connect your 8 ohm speaker to the 15 ohm tap, making your OPT effectively 3.73K. This would let you use a 2A3 type tube. Or, if you are more budget conscious, you can use one of the "fake" 2A3's like I have designed here:
New SET Amp Or you could use an EL84 in SET for about 3 watts as well. They're a lot easier to drive. Or you could get creative and use a 6S19P, like I was discussing here: http://www.diytube.com/phpBB2/viewto...ighlight=6s19p Or any number of tubes. It's up to you... choose wisely Got any pics of your OPTs by any chance? |
