Anything good, bad, ugly, tell me Thanks, Nick |

The Japanese swear by them triode connected as drivers in IT coupled 300B amps, etc. Very linear at low voltages.

Oh by the way Kevin, as a driver.
I saw that Wavac used a 6y6 to drive a 811a and I have to vintage rca 6y6ga's so I was thinking why not. |

I also have 4 NOS RCA 6Y6GA. I have tried them in a Simple SE with good results. Respect their maximum ratings. 250 volts causes uncontrolled runaway in 2 out of 4 tubes. You will get about a watt in triode.
I did some experiments with hybrid output stages using the tube (triode connected) as one half of a "darlington pair". A mosfet or BJT was the other half. I needed a tube that worked and was linear at low plate voltages (less than 150 volts). The 6Y6GA's were the best of all tubes tried. The 6W6 came in a distant second. The usual 6L6GC and 6V6 type tubes were useless under these conditions.

Yep! I used these triode strapped as IT driver in my 845 amp.
I also use the 6W6GT as well, which is a true sleeper! Triode I run them low, about 275V and 30mA. An upside over the 6W6GT is that they are available in ST glass. I've seen a number of 6Y6GT PP amps out there as well. Whats odd, is I've tried the EH 6v6 and am not nearly as fond as that as the 6V6/6Y6. -- Jim |

Yesterday I had my first experience with the GE trioded 6W6GT which I just plugged into a prototype amp that was running with russian trioded 6V6 (I lowered the B+ somewhat). Wow, what a difference, really liked the 6W6GT way more...
But then, the 6W6GT seems to be made to run trioded, the datasheet even shows the curves. Besides, the 6W6GT also pulls about three times more filament current than the 6V6. Now I am expecting to receive some 6Y6G from AES sale, lets see how they perform.
