6550 Amplifier

Any one seen an amp like this one? I picked this amp up at an estate sale, appears diy, but maybe a kit? EF86/12BH7 push/pull 6550. SS power supply, choked, looks like two transistors maybe for regulation (not sure). James Audio transformers, German filter caps, and Wimas. There are two tubes on the top in unconnected sockets, just to hold them. I can post more detailed pics if desired. Just trying to find out if its a kit ect.

I would figure a kit would have a PCB, but that's not always the case. I would guess that the amp was build from some sort of plan, but I wouldn't call it a kit. Just a custom build by someone who probably had experience with this sort of thing, considering the nice point-to-point work.

I think you are right. I noticed on a web page that sold James Audio transformers they also sold chassis ect. that were similar to the mine. I think it was a custom build using prefab chassis ect. Very good caps ect were used in it. I'm horrible tracing circuits so I may have to find an expert to decipher it for me
