My favorite preamp in my collection is my MingDa MC67-HA. I have never heard a better preamp... ever...
But it smoked... So now I get to hack it! The power transformer and chokes burned up because the startup autosequencing relay shorted. I was thinking of getting a new model but as far as I can tell, this it the mother of MingDa preamps. I put on a Hammond transformer and choke. Also the amp uses four 6N6 9-pin Chinese triodes in the power supply, two are rectifiers and the other two are in the voltage regulator. Seeing as how the relay is all wrapped up in the two rectifier tubes, I cut the relay out of the circuit and will be using 6CA4 rectifiers which I think should be pin-compatible with what's there. I'll post pictures and progress as I go... |
