rectifier tube recommendation please

Hi all,

What rectifier tubes come recommended for a line stage PS given the following:

5V heater supply
300VAC B+
no size or pin count limitations
slow start
long life
less than $20

Hmmm. Well, right off I think of 5W4GT because it has fairly low heater requirements and is economical. It is directly heated, though, so it won't really be slow to start. You could go with 5V4GA since it is indirectly heated and economical but the heater requirements are a little higher.

Of course, 5AR4/GZ34, but that may be out of the price range.

All of these are overkill as far as current handling ability is concerned.

Gary,

Jim McShane shows a Russian 5V4, with a $4.50 price tag. That's about as inexpensive as it gets. Jim also carries Chinese 5AR4s, with $9.75 "stickers".

I bought JJ 5ar4 for less than US$20.00 from tubestore.com (US$15.95 excluding shipping).

This 5ar4 works great on my KT88 amp.
