Default Danielak's 300B design

Hi all;

Looking to ping the community about Bob Danielak's 300B design found here:

http://www.geocities.com/bobdanielak/se300b.gif

http://www.geocities.com/bobdanielak/ps300b.gif

In short it is a 5965 > 1626 > 300B and was wondering if anyone has built or heard this design in comparison to a 6j5 > 6j5 > 300B or 26 > 10Y > 300B or something similar. It is something I am thinking about and will source some of the parts and drive my wife nuts in the process. My tube inventory, resistors and caps is slowly replacing books on shelves and she is starting to get nervous

Thanks

/e

I loved the sound of the 1626 as a preamp tube, but when I used it as a driver for 2a3 I couldn't get the right kind of sound out of it.

It's a big, beefy sound. I'd prefer to use a 71A or a 46 - much more subtle.

Andy,
Do you have a schematic for a 1626 preamp? Thanks. James

I must confess I rarely write out schematics - terrible failing I know, but there we are. I'm more of a builder - I'll juggle stuff around on the bench, listen to it for a while, take it back and work on it. It probably went through several iterations - can't even remember the basic circuit.

It wasn't a specially detailed sound but it was undoubtedly the most rockin', foot-tapping, swingingest preamp I ever made. I'd put on Jimmy Smith and I'd be dancing accross the room. I just couldn't stop tapping my foot to it.

I REALLY think the 1626 should be used in a stage amp - it's just begging to be used there.
