So far, I don't have a problem with the Hammonds as to buzzing or whatever. The only issue is it operates very warm to hot after some hours, but that could be due to the circuitry (140mA current draw) and I live in the tropics. Nevertheless its held out for so long.
I'd view transformer buzzing as a defect. Can you return the product if it buzzes?.

I think most places won't return a trannie if the wires are cut.

Allow me to suggest this. Don't cut short any of the wires. Strip and solder only the wires in use and bind them and others securely and out of the way. If the tranny works well..good. If not..apply for a warranty claim. I only hope the dealer is interested in having a satisfied customer.

I think I have asked a few times in email to Edcor, but got no reply - do they make chokes?

Cheers,

Chris

Yep. I'm not positive but I think you can even specify chokes for use in a choke-input power supply.

Sure would be nice if the power transformer manufacturers would provide the following technical data:

1. Unloaded Vin vs. Vout.

2. Primary Resistance.

3. Secondary resistance.

PSUD could then be used to get the actual operating values.

I just spotted this in my inbox...

Here is a PDF file that has most of the power transformers that EDCOR has designed and sale. You can view the full announcement by following this link:

Have you ever used the XPWR005? Any comments on its performance? I'm trying to find dimensional drawings for it...

What are peoples' experiences with the Edcor power transformers?
Very good. They seem overbuilt, large, low DCR, run cool, no buzz, accurate output voltage. I had them wind me some custom XPWR for a pair of mono-blocks. I wouldn't be surprised if I could run both mono blocks off one power transformer.
