Has any one heard of or tried this tube? A mesh plate el34--are there any really sonic advantages? Has the site got a good rep? I might buy from them

I've purchased their Amperex 845 copy, and received them with no problems. So, you will get your tubes.
Whats the theoretical value of mesh vs solid plate? I always thought the cathode alloy itself had more influence on the flavor of the sound. John C. |

The plate looks punched. I'd say it is not a mesh plate.

I have in my posession five EL35, and some of these do indeed have a mesh plate.
They are very rare - I'd like to know more about them! |

In the old days the mesh plates were woven from wire; now they're punched (cheaper); these look rather coarsely punched. A disadvantage I remember is a lower max. dissipation versus the solid anode counterparts; other than that it has theoretical advantages (out there somewhere on the web) and more than a few seem to prefer the sound of mesh plate 300B and such over the solid plate versions. Only one way to know if - as a matter of speech -punching those el34 plates was a marketing afterthought or fruitful engineering...
