The Tubelab SE is using 5842 or WE417. Did anybody try the russian 6S45P ? The pinout is different, but the specs are similar.
http://tkhifi.homepage.dk/div/6S45P/6S45P.html Is this an option ? |

Most of us who have used both tubes find the WE417/5842 to be preferable in applications where its lower Gm is not a problem. Electrically, the 6C45 is closer to the WE437, which is quite rare and expensive, and probably not worth the effort. There are a couple of dozen pentodes that when triode strapped are also electrically similar (i.e., high mu, high Gm). 7788, D3a, 6688, etc.

The 6S45P is easy to source and cheaper then the 5842.
The test results on vt52.com are good for the full audible audio range. http://www.vt52.com/info/measure/6s45/6s45.html There are also ebay vendors that clain the 6S3P and 6S4P are equivalent to the WE417. |

I have built a headphone amplifier with the 6C45. I am using in the anode circuit a CCS (constant current source) design by gary pimm and a sowter transformer condensator coupled (parafeed) in the output. The sound of the amp is very good. I use a Sennheizer headphone HD650.
Further I have built the Euridice ( Italian design) preamp. Transformer coupled. In this amp I use the 3A/167M. This tube in the english equivalent of te WE 437 ( american) or the 6C45 (russian) or EC6020 (European). You can easily use the 6C45 in this amp. This amp sounds good. best regards, Jos |

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anybody had used the 6S3P-EV ( aka 6C3n-EB http://www.mif.pg.gda.pl/homepages/frank/sheets/112/6/6S3PEV.pdf )? And if so, what operating points have sounded best? Any tips/advice appreciated. Thanks! |

hey-Hey!!!,
I have used the 6S4p-EV. It is nice but quite a variable tube; you'll need a good batch in order to sort them for the better ones. cheers, Douglas
