Stepped attenuator resistor calculation software

Jim Tonne, who writes some interesting software for ham radio and EE use (http://tonnesoftware.com/) has come up with a program to calculate resistor values for DIY stepped attenuators.

You specify number of switch positions, end-to-end resistance, and dB/step. It tells you what resistors to use.

I don't think the program is linked from his home page, but you can download it here:

3 dB steps

Who else thinks that 3 dB steps are quite ok?

I noticed this when I used a remote controller to adjust volume. Usually I noticed that when I did, I had to do more than 10 dB adjustments and 3 dB would be a fine adjustment.

I know that 3 dB step in signal level means double or half power, but still, this is what I noticed.
