Weird amp on ebay

Hey I was just browsing ebay and came across this and thought it might be of interest:

The layout looks strikingly like a dynaco ST70, same tubes and everything. What is this? May we have a prototype here maybe?

HollowState 23rd April 2008 03:48 AM

Ah Ha! Now we know where Hafler got his ST70 design from. :nownow:

Its a ST-70 that was manufactured to be in a console stereo. The ST-70 was designed in the 50's long before this one was made.

ThSpeakerDude88 23rd April 2008 05:57 PM

ah, nice. Who contracted them out to do that?

What about it tells you that it was made for a console stereo?

Seen a few amps exactly like it in consoles. If I remember correctly the guy on 6l6gt.com used to have pictures of one but his site seems to be down.

One thing that looks suspicious/puzzles me is the chassis number,

Wasnt that AO-58-1 a Hammond chassis/parts code?

Well that clears it up. I wonder if both the consoles that I have seen had the amp taken out of an Organ to be put in them or if they came that way from the builder. I wish I could find the pictures. One has about a ľ inch of dust covering the whole thing.

Wow they got 299.00 for it. Thatís more then I have paid for most the ST-70s I have bought.

ThSpeakerDude88 27th April 2008 05:32 AM

wow that is REALLY interesting! They put these things in organs? mighty strange! I'll be sure to be on the lookout for hammond stuff. I always thought they had the long chassis leslie style amps in them.
