The Mullard 3-3 was my first build. The measured thd was low but the distortion components horrendous, still going strong where my sound card ran out of bandwidth

I wonder if the low Anode voltage of the EF86 has something to do with this, some kind of a "tone control" which may well sound wonderful but measure miserably?

I did something similar with a 12AX7 Linestage many moons ago, an adjustable Anode voltage as a tone control of sorts.

At least quickly perusing the schematic shows in my mind a low Anode voltage on the EF86.
