Is anyone familiar with the "sound" of a 6GK5? It certainly has the specs to drive a 6AS7. I think it will work better in the circuit below in place of a 396A.

You are correct! I will have to fix that.

Here is a corrected schematic with the 6GK5 and it's operating points. Thoughts?

What if you use 6S45P or power penthode like Russian 6E6P,6j5 and Your resistor in anode to highest transformer site.
6s45 in 40ma like 6E6 or 6J5. In anode 6s45 = 190V, +190 for catode 6AS7 (190-190 = 0) Ra(6s45)200 Volt/0.04 = 5kOm Total voltage is 200+190 =390V Near 60V in 1V in input of 6S45 You will get. Use Loftin Wite(without caps and transformers. More expensive, but if You hear - give me know(i don't know what is cleary than ware).

Gavin,
By any chance that you have built the amp using the 6GK5 driver? Recently, I switched my 45 SET amp from SRPP 6SL7 to 6GK5 driver, I really like the sound of 6GK5 running at 10ma. High is smooth and bass is tight. Your schematic is just perfect for me to try using 6GK5 as driver to 71A SET. B+ 180v (fixed bias )to 210v (cathode bias )for 71A. Bob |

Yup. Good device. When I changed from 5965 to 6GK5 to drive PP 6v6s, the new transparency was thrilling.
Of course, the 5965 isn't all that linear. Aloha, Poinz |
