Default Using vintage OPTs as PSU chokes ?

Hi
Anyone used old scrap vintage output transformers as power supply chokes ?

I have two old Siemens SE OPTīs with following data:
3K:4/16
Primary induktance 5H (measured with AC only)
Primary resistance 250 Ohm
Measure aprox. 2x2x2"
I donīn know the DC rating, sins my L-meter only measure with AC (1000Hz), but the OPTīs where used with EL86, so I guess thay must handle ~30mA DC

I know, 250 Ohm and only 5H seems like a bad choke, but sins I plan to use VR tubes as voltage regulators the series resistance in the chokes will be subtracted from the series resistor -limiting the VR-tube current- anyway.

I will pull aprox. 30-40 mA DC though my PSU and It will be a LCLCR(VR) design

I guess the OPT cores are of higher quality, and that the winding had been done more seriously than the average Hammond choke, and that perhaps some benefit as wider inductive frequency range (ordinary scramble winded chokes has a limited frequency range caused by capacitance between windings)

Anyone tryed this ?
Could an old OPT be used this way or is it just a waste of time?

hey-Hey!!!,
Don't forget to add the secondary to the primary for a few more turns. Your guess at current capacity looks good to me.
cheers,
Douglas
