Default Saucepan Amplifier

A friend of mine brought over this amplifier that he recently scored on eBay. It's built on a thick wall 12 inch sauce pan with EL84s and 12AX7s. The open frame OPTs and PS capacitors are mounted underneath. The power transformer is under the dome which is uniquely made from an aluminum cover that originally fit on a large compressed gas cylinder. An arch-shaped section was cut from one side and welded back on reversed 180º. This provided a light snug fit around the transformer.

I found this construction quite novel. I've seen them built on rectangular cake pans, but never a sauce pan. I didn't photograph the bottom because it was kinda sloppy with parts held on by epoxy, silicone or hot glue.

That's a nice idea for the headphone amp shown in Building Valve Amplifiers, were MJ recommends to mount the valves in a circle, with a large 6AS7 in the middle!
