I am new to this forum, and new to the whole world of diy. About one week ago I got my first diy amplifier. The Ella Signature from diyhifisupply.com. I have now buildt it, but when I power it up, none of the led lights from the source switcher board in the front light up.
I have testet all the voltage things that I was supposed to, and when I started it with all the tubes insertet it came like a loud "brrrr" from the speakers. Still there was no lights in the front and pushing the volume button did not seem to make any difference in the loudness of the "brr" sound. Do anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks |

Sounds like more than a single problem. A ground connection at input may be missing.

Suggest sending a quick e-mail to Brian Cherry at DiyHifiSupply - a most helpful chap ! I have an older version of the Ella (my first tube project), and Brian helped me no end in getting the amp singing as it should - yep, didn't work first time either...

Well, the first thing you need to do is sit down with the manual and go through it again step by step looking for wiring errors. It sounds long and boring, but you have already invested a lot of time and money, so it makes sense to take it slow and resist the impulse to just "plug it in and see if it works".
Don't forget that the error is probably something you already think is correct, so be sure to really be methodical in your checking. As has been suggested, there may be multiple errors, so take your time. You are only just getting to know your amp. |
