Hey,
Just curious over which brand to buy, this is my first valve amp project, hence the question I'd ideally like to shop there, if possible L |

Sorry it's not the answer you're looking for, but I only ever use them in MI amps, and only to serviceold models. On a general note though, of the new production Russian tubes, I really don't find that much difference between those I've measured (in cct) beween equivalent types. 6V6's I've used in a guitar amp build recently, but the poweramp side is typical AB hifi design and it went very well with the EH's. So I'd suggest try them or JJ. Also, don't limit yourself to that store. Plenty of place in the US and for a few tubes, postage won't come to much, esp with current exchange rates. |

Yes, I'll second (third actually) that.
12AU7/ECC82? Horrible things. 7N7

Many thanks again guys, the 6SN7 looks to be the way forward, not too much fiddlement to be made

Just checking, all I really need to do is bring down the Anode voltage to + - 250v, the transconductance is lower than the 12AU7, which apparently is fine. All the rest of the power supply etc remains the same, which is over-engineered for a 6SN7GT, meaning a less stressed PSU

7C5 is a loctal 6V6 , maybe an idea to use these instead as NOS is plentiful and cheap . 7AF7 is a loctal 12AU7 so you may be able to build an all-loctal amp

Yeah, All the same sockets would be handy! Nothing too much in the circuit to change tho? I'm sticking with the 6V6, but changing the preamp tube to a 6SN7 as per recommendation
