German army still used regenerative receivers during WW-II!
They had nice drums with multiple of high quality coils, very mechanically stable...

I build little radios, but nothing as nice as these.. I'm currently working on a version of the Doerle using all 01A tubes.. Not as pretty as one of these..

I should post in small lower case here ... I recognise some of these!

My first regen. radio was with a 1D8GT diode-triode-pentode tube. Used Brown headphones, and caused no end of problems with the neighbours' radios when oscillating. One bought those octagonal bakelite coil formers blank for winding one's own coils.

Gee, that takes me back! Eddystome coil formers - I had a set of those for various short-wave bands. And the good old reaction control, the only way to drag in signals unless you were into superhets.

Used ink jet refill tanks are ready to use coil forms, though they are not Bakelite, but polyethylene have one of the best dielectric properties...
